Trip to Sol Duc Hot Springs

October 22, 2007 Leave a comment
Lisa and I went to the Sol Duc Hot Springs on the Olympic Peninsula for our anniversary.

This place was pretty cool, it is about 2.5hrs away on the Olympic Peninsula.  It has been around since the early 1900′s, in the 30′s they built a really fancy lodge and cabin but it all burnt down a few years later.  Now there is a main lodge and 20 or 30 small cabins and they have 3 hot springs pools and a regular swimming pool.

We spent most of our time hiking, there were several trails that left right from the resort.  It had been raining here all week before we left, so things were really moist.  On Friday we hiked a trail that was pretty much a river, then we got to this creek that was too wide to cross without getting soaked.  Saturday we hiked to the Sol Duc falls (in the pictures) and then up to Deer Lake (also pictured).  The resort is about 2000 feet above sea level and the lake is about 4000 feet so it was quite a hike.  We ended up above the snow line, and saw lots of little footprints on the trail some of which we think were cougar prints.

All in all a good trip.
