Adin’s 2nd Birthday Party!

March 21, 2010 Leave a comment

We had Adin’s 2nd birthday party yesterday which was lots of fun.  Five of Adin’s friends were over (6 with Baby Irene) to play, eat pizza and have birthday cupcakes.  It was a beautiful, warm sunny day here so the kids got to play both inside and outside.  Adin was very excited to have “Happy Birthday” sung to him and to blow out his candles.  We had practiced in the morning before everyone came over.  Here’s a video of the festivities:

Surprisingly, Adin did take a nap after everyone went home.  Once he was up & had a little snack, we opened his gifts.  He was very excited about the trucks, puzzles and recorders his friends so thoughtfully gave to him and has been playing with them ever since.

Adin had his 2 year well child visit on Tuesday which went well except he got a vaccination which made him cry a bit.  He also had a toe prick to check his iron levels which he winced at but didn’t cry (Doug was distracting him with a construction vehicle puzzle).  He weighs 24 1/2 lbs. (3 – 10 percentile) and is 33” tall (10 – 25 percentile).  He won’t need to visit the doctor again for his next well child visit until the age of 3.

On Wednesday our adoption counselor came over to check out our new house so she can update our home study.  The agency had not been doing many placements over the last few months (1 to 2 a month) but she told us that they are starting to work with more birthparents.  Of course we have no idea if that means we’ll be selected sooner rather than later (the agency’s average wait is 12 months so we haven’t even reached the halfway mark yet) but we are still waiting & are anxious to have another child.

Doug is continuing to work on things around the house.  He made a trip to Home Depot last night to pick up some things and was working around the house this morning.  Adin enjoys helping him and imitates his work.  In a few years from now when Doug asks for his help, he’ll inevitably not want to so we’re enjoying it while it lasts!

Adin’s Birthday Week

March 15, 2010 Leave a comment

Another busy week has passed and brings us to Adin’s 2nd Birthday!

We are continuing to settle into our new home.  For the most part we have unpacked and emptied all of the boxes we can, but there are still more around.  Although our new place is larger it does not seem to have all of the storage space our old house did, which is good because we won’t accumulate stuff.

Last weekend I made a trip to Ikea and came home with a car full of stuff, mostly for Adin of course.  In the photos you will see his new storage unit, easel and step stool.  It is nice to finally have all of his toys out of boxes, and I think it is helping him to have things organized.

On Wednesday we met some of Adin’s friends at the aquarium and had a fun time.  Adin really like the tide pool exhibit since he could splash around and touch the star fish.  He also liked one of the large tanks that had a bunch of salmon, halibut and rockfish swimming around.

Monday was the big 0-2 and we had a fun day!  Lisa took the day off work and Adin even slept in until 7 (granted the time change had something to do with that).  He opened one present in the morning, had some blueberry pancakes for breakfast then we went to swim class.  Afterwards we came home for lunch and nap time, then it was on.

Here are a few videos of the action, playing with the tunnel Lisa’s parents got for him and the digger and crane Lisa and I got for him.

Then we had cheese tortellini for dinner which is one of Adin’s favorites (he eats them dry), and for desert a pumpkin cheesecake (which Adin helped make).  You can tell from the look on his face he really liked it, and had two pieces.  In the second video he uses it as a train and an airplane so you know it is good.

And finally after dinner he opened the parking garage that Grandpa Larry got for him.  We had to build it and after helping with the Ikea stuff last weekend he was ready.  Once we had it together he played with it for quite a while before heading to bed.

I am sure he can’t wait to wake up in the morning and continue to play, and we also have a few more gifts for him to open.  We have his two year well child doctor visit on Tuesday and are anxious to see how much he weighs and how tall he is now.

Finally the week will wrap up with school and then a party on Saturday for his birthday.  We did not go too crazy for the party, only inviting some close friends.  Look for pictures next weekend.

Quick Update

Sorry we haven’t posted any thing to our site lately, as you can imagine we have been quite busy with the move and getting settled into our new home.  The move out of the apartment and into the house went really well.  We had excellent weather on moving day which made the process less painful.  Doug & I packed up the apartment ourselves a day or so before the move (with Adin’s help of course) so when the movers arrived on Sunday morning they loaded everything from the apartment into the truck and had everything unloaded by lunch time.  It took a couple of hours and two trips to get everything out of the storage unit but the movers were finished around 4:30.  I was able to spend some time organizing the kitchen & our bedroom while Adin was napping and once Adin was in bed for the night Doug and I spent more time unpacking.  I was off work Monday and Tuesday so between Doug & I we were able to get the majority of our unpacking completed over those two days.  Over the past two weeks we’ve been going through all the boxes that were in storage, organizing things that will stay in the garage and moving other things into the house.  All & all we are pretty settled in now.  There are still some boxes of summer clothes, bed linens for the guest room & things of that nature that still need to be put in the proper place but we will get to those in time.

Adin had no issues adjusting to our new home.  He absolutely loves hanging out & playing in his playroom and has been having lots of fun playing outside.  There is very little traffic in our neighborhood so we take frequent walks with Adin’s stroller or lawnmower up & down the street.  We’ve met many of our neighbors who all seem very nice.  There are a few kids around Adin’s age that live close by so we are hoping that Adin gets to spend some time playing with them soon.
