Findley’s Party
This was a pretty action packed week for Adin.
Of course we had swim class on Monday, but the fun began Wednesday when we had someone at the house to do a little carpentry work for us. We needed to have some rotting wood replaced on the front porch, and have the window sill and trim replaced in the living room.
Adin did a fantastic job as site foreman for the day. We followed the guy around the house, checked out his tools, watched him cut the wood and inspected his work. Adin really liked the pounding and sawing noises.
Friday and Saturday Doug spent the day painting and caulking and finishing up a few other odd jobs, so Lisa took Adin to a park by Lake Washington to hang out and have some lunch. Doug also had the first of many board meetings for the preschool to attend on Friday.
Sunday our neighbor’s son Findley had his second birthday party and we were invited. It was quite fun…they rented a little train that drove us around the neighborhood and Adin seemed to enjoy the rides. It was pretty impressive actually.
Adin is continuing to expand his walking distances and is gaining confidence, though he still likes to walk between Lisa and I for the most part. One of these days we are expecting him to wake up and just start going for it!
Mother’s Day Weekend
This has been a pretty busy week!
Lisa had to work a bunch this week so Adin and I were together a little more than normal, which was cool. We had some pretty big adventures as we prepared for Mother’s Day that took us all over the city. Unfortunately it was pretty rainy here this week so we got a little wet.
Saturday we went to look at a house in the morning, then came home and did a bunch of housework. After dinner we all decided to take a walk since it was warm outside. Adin has been doing more walking each day, but still prefers to walk from Lisa to me or vice versa.
Sunday we went to Juanita Beach Park on Lake Washington and hung out for a few hours. Adin got to see a bunch of ducks and puppies, and most importantly get to taste some sand. Lisa got him a bucket and shovel which he used to cover himself completely, which is OK. It is cool to see him experience touching new things and seeing different people.
For Mother’s Day we had some grilled portabella mushrooms and orzo pasta salad with goat cheese. Adin chowed it down, he had an entire mushroom (they were quite large) and a big bowl of pasta salad. It is hard to believe how much he eats sometimes. The other day he had the exact same breakfast I did…two banana waffles and an entire banana!
Low Key Week
This was kind of a low key week in terms of outings and things, we did not do all that much.
On Monday we had swim class, Tuesday and Wednesday we just hung out at home and Thursday we got Adin’s haircut for the second time. He did pretty well again, no crying or anything though we are not really happy with the job they did. After the haircut we hung out at this toy store and Adin was playing with a wooden tool bench. There was a little girl there and he followed her around the store for a while until she had to leave. Friday we went to class and had some people come over to give us estimates on a new garage door and some other stuff.
This weekend we decided to do some re-arranging in the house. We took the bed out of Adin’s room and moved our big blue chair in place of the bed. We wanted to give Adin a little more room to play in his bedroom, and we have not been using that bed anyway.
Adin has not wanted to walk very much this week, preferring to be held or carried. As much as we want to see him take off on his own we know he will do it in his own time. Some of the other parents in his class have experienced the same thing, and it seems like he is just slowly getting used to the idea of walking which is a pretty big change for a little person.
One thing new this week is that he is responding with yes or no to questions like, do you want some more food, or do you want some water, or is it time for a nap? Pretty soon the answers to these questions will all be no, but for now it is neat to see him express what he wants.
