Adin Walking on Tonka Truck

January 31, 2009 Leave a comment

Grandpa Larry got Adin a cool Tonka Truck for Christmas that is designed to help him learn to walk.  It has a handle that is just the right height for him to grab on and the wheels are wide so it is pretty stable.

This week we put his hands on the truck and just let him go.  After a little bit of screaming and nervousness he finally figured out that he could walk behind the truck on his own.  He is now able to walk all the way from the living room back to the bedroom, and this morning he even managed to let go of the truck and cruise from our chair over to our bed all on his own!

It won’t be too long now until he is running rampant through the house!

How I’ve Grown

January 29, 2009 Leave a comment

Adin had not used his ladybug tummy time toy, or bouncy chair for a while so we decided to pack them away last weekend.  Before we did we took a couple of pictures of him which really illustrates how much he has grown.

In the first ladybug picture he was two months old and really did not like laying on his tummy.  He never really has liked tummy time, and in the 10 month old shot he was not all that pleased either.

In the first bouncy chair shot he was 4 months old and we were hanging out on the front porch during the summer.  In the 10 month old shot he was practically climbing out of the chair!

First Haircut

We decided to take Adin in for his first haircut this week.

I guess there is a superstition that says you should not get a baby’s hair cut until their first birthday, but the poor little guy had hair in his eyes and ears.  He was really starting to get annoyed by it, rubbing his face a lot and pulling at his hair.

There is a salon at one of the local malls that specializes in kids haircuts so we took him over there.  You can see from the pictures that he got to sit in a fire truck which was pretty cool.  The person who cut his hair was nice, but he made it pretty easy because he did not even cry or get scared.  They gave us some of his hair and a little card with a picture of him in the fire truck.

It was kind of sad in a way to have it done…he really looks more grown up now that it is shorter and neatly trimmed.

In other news, Adin is really starting to cruise around the furniture with greater confidence.  He can now cruise the length of our sofa and he even switches from holding the foot stool to sofa.

Last weekend we got a package from Grandpa Larry that contained the Tonka truck he got Adin for Christmas.  The truck has a wide wheelbase and a handle that Adin can grab and walk behind.  So far he has been able to walk from the living room all the way down the hall to our bedroom.  It is kind of funny because he screams and yells as he walks, but he does a good job.

It won’t be too much longer until he is running around here.  We think that it is mostly a confidence thing at this point…he just gets scared that he is going to fall or something.

We are looking forward to a couple of more weeks visiting with Grandma once she returns from San Diego this weekend.

10 Months

January 18, 2009 Leave a comment
Adin turned 10 months old on Thursday.  It’s hard to believe that his first birthday is only two months away now.  He’s showing a little more interest in trying to crawl but is still more interested in walking.  He’s done some cruising along furniture this week though he’s very cautious about it and keeps reaching out for Doug or my hands.

Adin hasn’t been feeling well this week.  He has a stuffy nose & a cough and had a low-grade fever on Tuesday.  To top it off, we think that he is working on some teeth so he was in a pretty grumpy mood a couple of days this week.  He wasn’t sleeping that well over night or for his afternoon nap most of the week but yesterday he slept pretty well for us.  Unfortunately Doug, Grandma and I all had a bit of a cold this week too but the three of us are all starting to feel a bit better.

Doug took Adin to swim class on Monday and Grandma went along to watch.  There are some pictures that she took during class in the latest photo album.  It was school photo day at Adin’s preschool on Friday.  The photographer was playing with a stuffed bunny, making silly faces and funny noises to try and get the kids to smile.  Adin was really giggling at the photographer which the other parents & his classmates thought was funny so we’re looking forward to see how the pictures turn out.

Grandma left for San Diego on Saturday morning to visit Aunt Nancy.  She’ll be back on Feb 2nd and will stay with us for a two more weeks.  We’re looking forward to her return!

Atlanta Visit – Part 2

January 11, 2009 Leave a comment
The rest of our visit was nice & relaxing.  We spent most of the week hanging out at grandpa’s house where Adin proceeded to take apart many cabinets and drawers.  He especially liked emptying out the one kitchen cabinet that stored lots of bowls.

On Thursday Doug, Adin and I went to the Buckhead neighborhood for lunch and then walked around a little bit.  Friday we went out with Brad and Larry to an offbeat section of town called Little Five Points.  Adin had fun being pushed in his stroller, enjoying the warmer weather and sunshine.  Friday evening we all went out for pizza along with grandma, Sarah, Debbie & Eddie.  The pizza was very good and Adin enjoyed sitting on grandpa’s lap.  Saturday morning we had to get up early to leave for the airport around 6:15 am.  Of course this was the one morning that Adin was sleeping well so around 6 am I got him out of the pack and play to get him ready to go.  Brad offered his services in loading up the car for us, driving us to the airport and helping us get checked in the for the flight.  I don’t think we did ever tip him for his excellent service Smile

Adin did pretty well on the plane.  We tried feeding him some jars of baby food but he wasn’t really interested in eating very much so he mostly had some formula.  He was quite tired from getting up so early and took two short naps on the plane.  Unfortunately each time he fell asleep one of the kids sitting across the aisle from us would scream or cry which woke him up.  Adin took a good nap in his crib when we got home and then we had an early dinner together last night.  We all went to bed early and got up around 7 this morning.  Adin was glad to see that great-grandma was still here this morning and we’re all happy that she’ll be visiting with us for the next few weeks.

Spunky is happy that we are all home and is looking forward to us returning to our normal routines.  Tomorrow it will be back to work for me.  Adin will get back into his waterbabies and pre-school classes this week.
