Low Key Week

October 25, 2008 Leave a comment
We had a pretty low-key week this week – we attended our waterbabies class on Monday and our parent-infant class on Friday.  Doug & Adin went out for a walk to the Mercer Slough on Wednesday and came across some ducks on a dock.  The ducks were really close to Adin (who was in his stroller) and he watched them with fascination.  Adin and I have also been out for a few runs with our new jogging stroller this week.  The weather has been cool here this week (in the upper 30s to low 40s in the morning) so I’ve been bundling him up in a fleece one piece suit which has been keeping him nice & warm.  He seems to really enjoy it when I’m jogging as he’ll giggle and kick his feet.  Leaves are starting to fall from the trees and Adin enjoys the sound of the crunching leaves.

Adin is continuing to explore new fruits and vegetables.  This week he’s had golden beets and bananas & liked both of them.  He’s also continuing to nap in his crib without needing to be put in the peanut.  The past few days he’s gotten up around 5:20 so I’ve been letting him stay in his crib until 5:45 or so with the hopes that he’ll go back to sleep.  I was really enjoying sleeping until 5:45 – 6:00 so hopefully I can get him back to that time again.

7 Months

Everything is going well here.  Adin is continuing to explore the world of fruits and vegetables.  So far his favorite food is apples followed closely by pears.  He hasn’t been too excited about some of the other vegetables we’ve had him try like sweet potatoes but we’ll keep at it.

Adin is getting two teeth in the bottom front.  They’ve started to show a little bit so we hope it doesn’t take too long for them to come through.  He’s been a real trooper about it so we can’t complain.  Of course he’s putting everything he can into his mouth and sometimes when he’s in his crib we’ll see him pushing his face into the mattress which we think he may be doing to apply some pressure to his mouth.  His teething did seem to impact his naps the other week but this week he’s been napping really well.  For the past 3 or 4 days he’s taken two naps of an hour to hour & 15 minutes in his crib and hasn’t been in the peanut at all.  We’re hoping that this pattern continues!!

Adin is now going underwater at his Water Babies class.  We do a maximum of 5 "dips" per class which is essentially submerging him completely underwater using a diving like motion.  He’s done really well with it – he hasn’t cried or gotten upset at all.

Yesterday at his "preschool" class all the kids did footprints for their journals.  I posted a few pictures of Adin getting his feet painted and there is one of him and another girl from the class.  I’ll take the camera to another class soon and take pictures of Adin interacting with the other kids.

We ordered a jogging stroller from REI which Doug picked up last night.  Now I have no excuse to go out running since I can take Adin with me Smile  He still really enjoys being outside so hopefully he’ll like adding jogging into his morning routine.

Last Saturday we attended our first Tiny Tots concert in Seattle.  The program was titled Folk and Fiddlin & introduced the kids to the bango, fiddle and spoons.  It was the first time that Adin was in a setting like that so he sat on Doug’s lap (holding onto his hands) and just took everything in.  After the concert we went to Cafe Ladro to give Adin a bottle and for Doug & I to have lattees then we went to do some shopping at Pike Place Market.  I had Adin in the Bjorn carrier and he had a great time looking around at everything.  The weather was crisp and clear so it really was one of those perfect fall days.

Sitting Up

October 4, 2008 Leave a comment
So Adin is officially sitting up on his own now.  He still topples over when he reaches for things that are too far for him to grab but he’s starting to learn those limits and how to rebalance himself when he starts to topple.

This week we introduced him to avocado which he didn’t like much at all and peas which he seemed to like quite a bit.  We thought we’d start off him on a few veggies so he doesn’t start out tasting sweet fruits and be disappointed with the nonsweet flavor of veggies.

There are some pictures in the photo album of Adin at the pool.  We didn’t have a water babies class this week but we went over to the pool since they were having an open swim.  Adin enjoys being in the pool and has started to like taking baths since he figured out that it’s okay to kick & splash the water around with his hands.

He’s been sleeping pretty well for us at night this week.  The past few nights we’ve put him to bed during his normal bedtime (between 6 and 7 pm) and he hasn’t gotten up until around 4 or 5 am for his bottle.  Amazingly enough he then goes back to sleep in his crib until 6:30 or 7 am.  His naps were shorter this week – only about an hour & 15 minutes or an hour & 30 minutes max so that may have something to do with it.  Most of his naps are still a combo of crib for 30 minutes and then the remainder in his peanut sling.  It won’t be too much longer before he no longer fits in the sling – it’s getting harder and harder for us to get him in there Smile
